In an age of mass-production, hand crafted items have a valuable quality of their own. All of my work is hand-forged, predominantly from copper but with some use of brass, aluminium, stainless steel and silver. I produce one-off, original designs for interior and external display.
Coming from a background of environmental awareness and conservation, I have a dislike of the throw-away culture now in such abundance. Progressing from the creation of outdoor structures, combining both organic and non-organic substances, I began to work on smaller sculptures depicting one with the other.
Now in my own workshop, I recycle metal and other used objects, creating a juxtaposition in the use of these previously functional materials into the natural forms of plants and creatures. The contradiction that this presents is a major component in my work, although some of my work takes a more abstract or functional form.
Currently living and working at the foot of the South Downs in Sussex, I am also studying Blacksmithing as a Creative Craft.
